“What training do Naturopathic Doctors have?”

After completing a four-year undergraduate program, they have to attend an accredited school of Naturopathic Medicine for four years to achieve a Doctor of Naturopathy degree. 

The naturopathic education program includes clinical science courses such as anatomy, biochemistry, embryology, immunology, pharmacology, and clinical physiology - in addition to naturopathic modalities such as botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, massage, physical medicine, homeopathy, and traditional Chinese medicine. Once graduating, all graduates are required to successfully pass all standardized Entry to Practice Examinations in order to become qualified for registration as a Naturopathic Doctor. If practicing in Ontario, Naturopathic Doctors are registered in good standing with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. Practicing NDs are also required to complete continuing education hours to enhance their learning and maintain their registration with Ontario.

“Is naturopathic medicine covered under OHIP?”

Naturopathic appointments are not covered under OHIP. Many insurance companies do provide some naturopathic coverage, so check under your private insurance benefits if you are interested in booking an appointment with a Naturopathic Doctor.

“What can I expect from the initial appointment?”

Our initial meeting will consist of a detailed assessment. Together, we will review your health goals, analyze relevant blood work with additional testing, and perform necessary physical examinations. We will obtain a greater understanding of the present obstacles standing in the way of reaching these goals. From the initial appointment, we will establish a foundational health plan. In future follow-up appointments, we will dive deeper to review testing and look at the effectiveness of the implemented treatment protocols. Through these appointments, we will track your health progress and implement any changes to the treatment plan, ensuring it matches your lifestyle goals.
